Today, many nicotine users choose smokeless nicotine products (nicotine pouches). Smokers consider them a "better" and "safer" alternative to smoking cigarettes. The study of this issue was prompted by a clinical case of detecting changes in the mucous membrane of the oral cavity of a patient who used nicotine-containing pouches (Velo). The purpose of the work was to study the prevalence and structure of the use of nicotine-containing products among young people, personal assessment of dependence on them and assessment of their impact on the condition of the tissues and organs of the oral cavity and the body as a whole. Research results prove changes in the structure of smoking in the direction of an increase in the use of smokeless nicotine-containing products, which, according to smokers, are a safer alternative to smoking cigarettes. The presented clinical case confirms the fact of changes in the mucous membrane of the oral cavity at the place of insertion of VELO pouches, which is manifested by clouding, the appearance of a whitish, slightly opalescent shade of the mucous membrane, the absence of a vascular pattern, which is a sign of increased keratinization of the epithelium. The question needs further careful study with the involvement of a larger number of respondents and research methods. Key words: smoking, smokeless nicotine products, changes in the mucous membrane of the oral cavity.
