Annotation:

Ethanol is classified as a vascular poison, and prolonged ethanol intoxication leads to damage to almost all organs and systems. It is also worth noting that the current medical and biological scientific literature lacks data on quantitative morphological changes in the vessels of the prostate hemomicrocirculatory bed in ethanol intoxication. Morphologically and morphometrically, the vessels of the prostate hemomicrocirculatory bed of 30 laboratory sexually mature white male rats were studied, which were divided into two groups. Group 1 consisted of 15 experimental intact animals and group 2 – 15 rats under chronic alcohol intoxication. One month after the start of the experiment, the experimental animals were euthanised by bleeding under thiopental anaesthesia. The outer and inner diameters, wall thickness of arterioles, precapillary arterioles, hemocapillaries, post-capillary venules and venules were determined morphometrically on semi-thin sections of the prostate gland. Quantitative data were processed statistically. Light-optical examination of the prostate gland in chronic ethanol intoxication showed dilatation, the full blood flow of mainly venous vessels and severe perivascular oedema. There was an overgrowth of the muscular-elastic stroma, reduction of folds and atrophic changes in the glandular epithelium, a marked decrease in the glandular component of the organ under study, dystrophic, necrobiotic changes in endothelial cells, glandular epithelial cells, myocytes, stromal structures, and the appearance of foci of cellular infiltration. Morphometrically, we found narrowing of the lumen and thickening of the walls of arterioles, precapillary arterioles, hemocapillaries, dilation of the lumen and thinning of the walls of the prostate post-capillary venules and venules, and a significant increase in the stroma in the organ under study. Significant reduction of the glandular component and pronounced proliferation of the muscular-elastic stroma.
