In most countries of the world, even in peacetime, traumatic injuries to the organ of vision remain one of the leading causes of disability. In Ukraine, due to the widespread use of explosive weapons, the frequency of eyeball injuries has increased significantly. The type and severity of such injuries directly depend on the nature of the traumatic factor, the force of the impact and the localization of the explosive effect, which is primarily reflected in the condition of the eye membranes. The aim of the study was to identify the patterns of restructuring of the structural components of the eyeball and its membranes under conditions of experimental trauma. During the experiment, morphological changes in the structures and membranes of the eyeball caused by the action of the shock wave were investigated, taking into account the time dynamics. In the acute period, during the first day after injury, erosions, opacities, and in some cases even ruptures of the outer fibrous membrane were observed in the cornea. On the seventh day, in the early period, spot-like opacities were formed in the form of clusters of grayish dots under the epithelium, which partially raised it. On the fourteenth day, which corresponded to the late period, the development of dystrophic processes and the formation of scar tissue were recorded. In the distant, thirty-day period after the impact of the shock wave, the changes became more structurally pronounced, covering various membranes and internal structures of the eyeball. The analysis showed that, despite the primary damage to the outer layers – in particular, the fibrous membrane, which is the first to contact the shock wave – pathological changes occur at all levels of the eyeball structure. Each membrane exhibits its own characteristics of reaction at different time periods after injury. In addition, significant changes occur in the internal structures of the eye, in particular in the lens, which indicates the complex nature of post-traumatic changes.
