Cadmium is classified as a highly toxic cumulative element with an extremely long half-life in humans and mammals, while in the structure of cadmium-induced lesions, the cardiotoxic effect remains one of the least studied. The aim of the study was to determine the dynamics of changes in the microelement status of the heart of adult male rats under conditions of chronic exposure to cadmium chloride with isolated administration and in combination with zinc or iron succinates. The experimental part of the study was performed on male rats, the animals were divided into four experimental groups. In addition to the control group, there was a group of isolated administration of cadmium chloride and 2 groups of combined administration of the toxicant with zinc succinate or iron succinate. The drugs were administered intragastrically, daily for 20 days. The hearts of the animals were removed to determine the level of cadmium, zinc and iron by the polyelement method. Chronic isolated administration of cadmium chloride to male rats leads to progressive deposition of the metal in the myocardium: on the 13th day its level increases by 1.9 times compared to the control, and on the 20th day – by 2.5 times. Isolated administration of cadmium also leads to changes in the level of zinc and iron in the myocardium of the rat heart. Combined administration of cadmium with iron succinate or iron succinate has a pronounced regulatory effect on the redistribution of not only cadmium, but also maintaining the level of zinc and iron in the myocardium of male rats closer to the values of the control group, which indicates a potential modifying effect of succinates on cadmium cardiotoxicity. The obtained experimental data indicate that despite the continuous supply of cadmium, the administration of both biometal succinates (Fe and Zn) effectively counteracts the depletion of microelement resources of the heart and stabilizes the mineral homeostasis of the myocardium of experimental animals.
