The most common, very diverse, at the same time covering a large number of students are the mass forms. These forms mainly have both cognitive and entertaining orientation, provide ample opportunities for activating students’ activities. The advantages of mass extracurricular work are informativeness and meaningfulness, which contribute to the realization of practical and general educational goals; communicative orientation, situationality, orientation of tasks to increase the activity of students, emotionality of forms and methods of realization that promotes increase of students’ interest in scientific activities.Working on writing an essay is an important step towards full-fledged research work and valuable experience for scientific and practical activities. At scientific and practical conferences, young researchers present the results of their scientific work. This forces them to carefully prepare a speech and build public speaking skills. Each student has the opportunity to evaluate their work against the background of others and draw appropriate conclusions. Because conferences are usually a creative discussion of reports, each speaker can learn original thoughts and ideas. Such conferences contribute to the establishment of close links between higher education and students, as well as develop students’ ability to apply theoretical knowledge and skills in practice. Thus, the organization and effectiveness of independent extracurricular work in higher medical school are extremely important for the formation of clinical thinking in a medical student.
