Temporomandibular joint disease (TMJ) is a common pathology of the maxillofacial region. Musculoskeletal dysfunction of TMJ (MAD TNG) is a unique problem. Patients with MAD TNG make up from 78.3 to 95.3% of patients with functionally determined forms of joint pathology and a violation of the coordinated work of the masticatory muscles. This disease, the pathogenesis of which has not yet been definitively established, is characterized by polymorphism of clinical symptoms. Neuromuscular, occlusive, general somatic, psycho-emotional and some other factors are considered the main factors in the development of MAD TNG, individually or in combination. At the same time, there are no data on the etiology of symptom complexes depending on the factors causing MAD TNG. The early symptoms of MAD TMJ are mainly reduced to pathological changes that develop in the masticatory muscles, in the articular disc, the capsular-ligamentous apparatus, and later in the bone structures of the joint. At the same time, various clinical manifestations in patients with MAD TMJ and the lack of clear diagnostic criteria lead to the fact that patients turn to specialists of other profiles for many years - otorhinolaryngologists, neuropathologists, dentists-orthopedics, therapists - and do not receive adequate treatment. Unfortunately, the lack of consistency between doctors of different specialties and the optimal diagnostic algorithm complicates the management of patients with MAD TMJ pain. Up to 70% of patients with MAD TMJ suffer from myofascial pain syndrome caused by muscle hypertonicity and spasm of the masticatory muscles. Timely detection of the underlying symptom complex in patients with MAD TMJ is an essential tool that ensures the optimal clinical effect of dental care. Against the frequent use of numerous additional diagnostic methods of MAD TMJ, little attention is paid to the diagnostic value of the main clinical methods, such as surveys. The 94 patients with MAD TMJ questionnaires were analyzed to determine the most typical signs of the disease. Analyzing the patient's complaints allows one to determine how to accompany patients with the painful form of MAD TMJ.
