The article summarizes current literature data on the effects of cadmium on the reproductive system, focusing on the morphofunctional state of the ovaries. The main mechanisms of cadmium-induced ovarian toxicity are analyzed, including disrupted folliculogenesis, oxidative stress, granulosa cell apoptosis, and hormonal imbalance. Experimental and clinical findings indicate cadmium accumulation in ovarian tissues, decreased ovarian reserve, and reduced fertility. Special attention is given to morphological alterations in ovarian structures under various doses and exposure durations. The perspectives for further morphological and clinical research are discussed, emphasizing advanced approaches such as morphometry, immunohistochemistry, 3D tissue visualization, and evaluation of oxidative stress and metallothionein biomarkers. The obtained data may serve as a basis for developing preventive and therapeutic strategies to mitigate reproductive dysfunction caused by heavy metal exposure.
