The parietal bone (os parietalis) is a paired bone that forms the cranial vault's lateral (outer) surfaces. The study of the structural features of the cranial vault has always been the focus of attention of many morphologists. The study was performed on 48 tomograms obtained during the examination of patients, and 130 described preparations of bone structures of the adult head in the amount of 82 bone preparations, including isolated parietal bones. In order to obtain a range of individual anatomical variability in the thickness of the parietal bones of a mature adult depending on gender and existing craniotype, we conducted several studies of macrostructural features of the parietal bones. First of all, we determined the total bone thickness on both sides, considering the craniotype, and separately measured the thickness of the outer and inner laminae and the diploid layer. It has been established that the parietal bone's total thickness clearly depends on the established craniotype. Thus, in people with a brachycranial cranium shape, the total thickness of the parietal bones varies from 6.0 mm to 12.4 mm (right) and from 6.6 mm to 12.0 mm (left) in men, respectively from 6.0 mm to 11.8 mm (right) and from 6.0 mm to 11.7 mm (left) in women. For people with a mesocranial cranium shape, the typical range of variability in the total thickness of the parietal bones ranges from 5.0 mm to 9.2 mm in men and from 4.9 mm to 9.0 mm in women. For people with a dolichocranial cranium shape, this indicator slightly decreases to 4.8-8.0 mm (men) and 4.8 to 8.2 mm (women). The obtained mor-phological data indicate that the outer table of both parietal bones is well expressed along their entire length and is represented by a single bone formation with minor gender characteristics. At the same time, the range of variability of the middle bone layer represented by the diploic substance was determined. The thickness of this layer gradually increases from the dolicho- to brachymorphs. The inner bone table of the parietal bones is represented by a single thin layer with the smallest thickness along their entire length and, therefore, is the most susceptible to cranium and parietal bone wall injuries.
