The article analyses the problem of stigmatisation of patients with mental disorders, the reasons for its occurrence and spread, and outlines possible ways to solve it. It is revealed that stigmatisation of mentally ill people is the first barrier to treatment and recovery: it leads to rejection of such persons, discrimination and exclusion from public life in various spheres. This becomes especially significant if patients encounter such attitudes among doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals. The article describes the stigmatising attitude and negative approach to mentally ill people among medical students, which may be reflected in their professional activities as doctors in the future and negatively affect the quality of patient care. The results indicate that psychiatric practice, which involves close interaction between students and patients, can effectively reduce stigma. Therefore, the researchers advocate the inclusion of direct patient contact components in medical education to reduce prejudice and discrimination, which can improve the effectiveness of treatment of patients with mental illness. Thus, it has been established that the problem of stigmatisation of patients with mental disorders is highly relevant, even among healthcare professionals. The inclusion of components of direct interaction and close direct contact of future doctors with patients with mental disorders in educational programmes can increase acceptance and openness to them, as well as improve the effectiveness of treatment.
