The modern system of medical education requires innovative approaches to training specialists capable of combining fundamental knowledge with practical skills and research activity. In this context, student involvement in scientific work plays a particularly important role, as it fosters the development of clinical and morphological reasoning, critical analysis, and independent decision-making skills. Pathomorphology is a core discipline that integrates academic knowledge with research approaches and creates conditions for the early professional identification of future physicians. The aim of the study was to evaluate the role of student research activity (SRA) in studying pathomorphology and to determine its significance for the development of professional competencies in future doctors. The study is based on the five-year experience of the Department of Pathological Anatomy at Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University. The activities of the student scientific club, the outcomes of individual research projects, and student participation in scientific events were analyzed. It was established that SRA promotes deeper assimilation of theoretical material, enhances clinical and morphological thinking, and cultivates independence, responsibility, and academic communication skills. External challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and wartime conditions, limited opportunities for traditional learning, yet stimulated the use of digital technologies, remote formats, and improved student adaptability. Despite these difficulties, high levels of scientific activity were maintained, as evidenced by participation in national and international conferences and numerous awards. Student research activity in pathomorphology thus serves as an effective tool of professional training, contributing to the formation of scientific culture and enhancing the competitiveness of graduates.
