The aim of this study was to prove experimentally the possibility of pharmacological correction changes of organometric parameters of adrenal glands after 60-day administration of tartrazine by use of the drug with antioxidant action – mexidol. Object and methods. The study was conducted on 245 mature albino male rats, which were introduced in the experiment with the initial body weight 200-210 g, and were divided into 7 groups of 35 animals each: 1st group – control animals that daily for 60 days by gavage administered 1 ml of 0. 9% isotonic sodium chloride solution; 2nd and 3rd groups – rats that daily for 60 days by gavage administered 1 ml solution of tartrazine at a dosages 750 and 1500 mg/kg body weight respectively; 4th and the 5th groups – rats that daily for 60 days by gavage administered 1 ml of solution of tartrazine at a dosages 750 mg/kg and 1500 mg/kg body weight respectively, and intramuscularly 1 ml of 0. 9% isotonic sodium chloride solution (control group for the 6th and 7th groups); 6th and 7th group – animals that daily for 60 days by gavage administered 1 ml solution of tartrazine at a dosages 750 and 1500 mg/kg body weight respectively, and intramuscularly 1 ml of 5% solution of mexidol the rate of 50 mg/kg of body weight daily in the afternoon (from 14 to 15 hours). Animals were removed from the experiment by decapitation under ether anesthesia, allocated adrenal glands and using caliper measured the length, width and thickness of each of the glands, as well as their absolute mass using the torsion scale. The volume of the left and right adrenal glands by the formula V = 3,14*length*width*thickn ess/6 and their density by the formula P=mass of adrenal gland/volume of gland also were calculated. Results and discussion. In mature rats of 6th group corrective influence of mexidol recorded with a 10th day of readaptation period and up to 24 days the organometric parameters of adrenal glands approaching to those in 1st group. Animals of 6th group the absolute mass of right adrenal gland, its length and width were more than the values of 4th group from 10th to 24th days of readaptation period at 7. 27%, 9. 37% and 7. 67% and at 14. 24%, 11. 29% and 10. 77 % and at 9. 52%, 10. 74% and 7. 62%, respectively, the absolute mass of the left gland and its thickness – from 15th to 24th days at 9. 54%, 9,69% and at 7. 58%, 8. 14%, the length of the left gland – from 10th to 15th days at 10. 82%, 9. 22% , and the thickness of the right gland – to 10th day at 7. 94%. The volume of the right adrenal gland was more parameters of 4th group rats from 3rd to 45th days at 15. 57%, 34. 48%, 31. 67%, 25. 82% and 12. 95%, while the left gland – from 10th to 45th days at 22. 25%, 26. 41%, 20. 16% and 14. 58%. The density of right adrenal gland was less than the values of 4th group animals from 3rd to 24th days of readaptation period at 11. 13%, 21. 18%, 16. 70% and 14. 55%, and the left – from 10th to 15th days at 13. 10%, 12. 34%. In mature animals of 7th group corrective effect of mexidol manifested only to 15 days of readaptation period and the values of organometric parameters in this group approached those in 1st group only to 45 days. Animals of 7th group the length of right adrenal gland was more parameters of 5th group from 15th to 24th days of readaptation period at 11. 58%, 7. 29%, and the width and thickness of the right and left glands – only to 15th day, respectively at 7. 89%, 9. 46% and at 13. 29%, 10. 74%. The volume of the left and right adrenal glands was higher than the values of 5th group from 10th to 45th days at 16. 69%, 31. 69%, 19. 81% and 13. 07% and at 18. 28%, 33. 59 %, 17. 97% and 10. 55%, the density of the right gland – in contrast, was less from 15th to 24th days at 19. 56%, 10. 86%, and left – only to 15th day at 20. 95%. Conclusion. The usage 5% solution of mexidol the rate of 50 mg/kg body weight as corrector smoothes out the changes of organometric parameters adrenal glands in mature rats in readaptation period caused a 60-day daily intragastric administration of tartrazine. The most pronounced and prolonged flavoring effect was registered in the group with the use of tartrazine at a dosage of 750 mg/kg, which is less manifested by increasing its dose administered up to 1500 mg/kg body weight.
