The acquisition of practical skills by students is important and necessary for the daily practice of a physical thera- pist, rheumatologist, and orthopedist, who in the near future will provide assistance to patients with damaged limbs, including injuries from martial law in Ukraine. During practical classes, students visually and manually examine the bone landmarks of their body. This helps to eliminate a certain gap in the transition from studying the musculoskeletal system using bone preparations in the first year of study to examining the patient in the future. This work presents the results of a sequential study of bone landmarks in the upper limb from the shoulder girdle to the distal phalanges of the fingers, which is based on the principles of vital surface anatomy. In the process of this study, its descriptive part, emphasis is placed on the mandatory observance of the standards of international medical and anatomical terminology and its Ukrainian analogue. The basic rules for palpation of joints are given, which are performed with both hands, delicately, but with sufficient pressure to reveal deeper structures, while simultaneously comparing the right and left joints, starting with a healthy joint. During the examination, the patient's feelings should be taken into account - pain and discomfort, which are important clinical symptoms. An algorithm for palpation of the elbow joint is given, which allows you to assess superficial anatomical structures, soreness, swelling, deformations and functional changes. In practical classes, students learn to determine the main criteria for palpation of joints: increased skin temperature, which may indicate inflammation, swelling indicates effusion or thickening of the synovial membrane, crepitation indicates degenerative changes in arthrosis, localized pain, which may radiate, which appears when pressed, or when moving, restriction of movements in the joint may occur as a result of damage to the main articular elements, or functional. The practical application of knowledge of bone landmarks of the human body surface is a necessary addition to academic disciplines, namely: human anatomy, physiology, and diseases of the musculoskeletal system in the training of specialists in physical therapy and rehabilitation.
