The article presents conceptual ideas about the methodology of conducting complex physiological examinations of athletes in laboratory conditions, which allows for obtaining parameters of external respiration, blood circulation, oxygen consumption by the body, as well as characteristics of the volumetric rate of oxygen delivery to the lungs and alveoli, in a state of rest and during physical exertion, its transport by arterial and mixed venous blood, to analyze changes in the partial pressure of oxygen at different stages of its path in the body, to evaluate the efficiency of the cardiopulmonary system (CPS), the efficiency of oxygen mass transfer regimes (OMTR), as well as the quality of their regulation. The methodology of the integrated approach at the first stage includes the determination of a number of initial indicators, which are further used according to a certain scheme in the calculations of OMTR parameters and indicators of their efficiency, as well as the cost-effectiveness of CPS, etc. The structure of the functional support of the special working capacity of athletes with different orientations of adaptation reactions is shown. An evaluation of the structure of the CPS reaction is carried out according to the specificity of the OMTR features to predominantly hypoxic, hypercapnic or acidemic shifts. The qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the kinetics of physiological processes under conditions of high intensity of physical exertion are presented. A comprehensive approach allows you to identify qualitative differences in OMTR, the comparison of which provides detailed information not only about aerobic performance but also about what ensures it and what limits it, and therefore provides opportunities for finding new reserves for mobilizing the functional potential of athletes. All these components are based on the body's specialized reactive properties.
