The mental health of students in higher medical education determines their future educational efficiency and ability to provide quality medical care. The effects of severe psycho-traumatic factors during wartime can negatively affect the health of medical students, leading to issues such as anxiety, depression, and impaired quality of life. This study aimed to determine the mental state of students in higher medical education after two years of martial law. Two years after the start of martial law, 73 students (69.9% female) with a median age of 21.4 years (95% CI: 20.53, 21.47) were examined. The PHQ-9 and GAD-7 questionnaires, along with a specially developed questionnaire addressing components of sleep quality and quality of life, were used. As a result of the study, it was found that 60.3% of the students had anxiety of varying severity, 11% had severe anxiety, and another 11% had severe impairments in working capacity. Depression of various levels was experienced by 67.1% of respondents, with 12.3% having severe depression. Additionally, 12% had a pronounced impairment in the mental component of quality of life.
