Analysis of the results of international studies on the prevalence of cysts and features of their development reveals contradictory data. The present study aimed at providing determination pattern, presentations and prevalence of odontogenic jaw cysts in local population. From January 2003 to June 2014, 344 patients with 392 odontogenic cysts were treated at the Clinic for Oral, Maxillofacial, and Facial Surgery at Ludwig Maximilian University. The Рatients were divided into two main groups: a) 0-16 years and b) over 16 years. Out of total number of patients male patients were more affected by odontogenic cysts, constituting 66.07% compared to females at 33.93%. The evaluation of locations revealed that cystic lesions predominantly occurred in the mandible. In 3.57% of cases, cystic lesions occurred in both the maxilla and the maxillary sinus, and in 0.51% of cases, only the maxillary sinus was involved. In 18.3% of cases, cysts were localized in the maxillary anterior region, 8.3% in the maxillary premolar region, and 10% in the maxillary molar region. Among cysts in the mandible, the majority occurred in the molar region followed by the mandibular premolar region and the mandibular anterior region. Thus, out of the total number of patient male were more affected by odontogenic cysts, compared to females. Radicular cysts of the jaws were diagnosed more frequently. Localizations of radicular cysts on the lower jaw was more frequent than on the upper jaw, which confirms the literature data.
