Annotation:

The article is devoted to the controversial issue of the influence of academic rankings on modern higher education. The authors emphasize that the era of the digital society is characterized by unprecedented dynamism, which leads to the active formation of the global educational space. In this regard, academic ratings are considered as one of the tools intended for measuring the competitiveness of higher education institutions, forming a strategy for their further development and transformation. The analysis of the literature showed that in the scientific discourse various aspects of academic ratings are invariably in the focus of attention of scientists, which indicates the debatable nature of this phenomenon.
