In modern conditions in Ukraine, the consequences of blast waves and shock injuries are increasingly recorded, which have a significant impact on the human body as a whole. Special attention in the scientific literature is paid to the study of the organ of vision and its membranes in the norm, as well as the analysis of structural changes under the influence of external and internal pathogenic factors. An important place is also occupied by the study of the diencephalon sections, where the subcortical centers of the visual analyzer are located. The aim of this study was to clarify the changes in the ultrastructural organization of the components of the visual analyzer based on the experimental model of shock wave exposure, which reproduces the action of the pathogenic factor in the acute period. The results showed that after the action of the shock wave in the acute period, significant differences in tissue and cellular reactions occur. A pronounced reactivity of cells of the visual area of the thalamic, metathalamic and hypothalamic sections of the diencephalon was established. Special changes were noted in mitochondria: they changed shape and size, and also underwent destruction of cristae, which indicates deep disturbances of intracellular metabolism. We also observed a pronounced reaction of neurons of the occipital cortex, in particular edema around the ves- sels, thickening of their membranes and signs of demyelination of axons in the extracellular space. These changes may serve as a morphological basis for the development of various neurological symptoms and diseases associated with the impact of blast trauma. The obtained data confirm the importance of further study of structural and functional changes of the visual analyzer under conditions of traumatic injury and may become the basis for the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
