Smoking is a dose-dependent risk factor for bacterial vaginosis. It is also significantly associated with the risk of several sexually transmitted infections in women, including Trichomonas vaginalis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Chlamydia trachomatis. Colonization of the mucous membrane by pathogenic microorganisms is associated with damage to the epithelium of the cervix due to modification of cellular DNA, suppression of local and systemic immune reactions, and a decrease in the number of representatives of the indigenous microflora. It was established that cotinine, the primary metabolite of nicotine, is concentrated in cervical mucus, which suggests that it directly affects the vaginal microbiota. The purpose of the study: to investigate changes in the microbiota of the urogenital tract of women of reproductive age in the Dnipro region, which are caused by pathogenic microorganisms against the background of tobacco smoking. Detection of pathogenic microorganisms in the biological fluid of women of different age groups who smoke and do not smoke using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. Trichomonas vaginalis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis are pathogenic microorganisms, and according to the instructions for the Femoflor Screen screening test system, their detection in samples of biological material is considered a positive result. Diagnosis and identification of these microorganisms were one of the stages of a complex diagnostic examination of women with reproductive system disorders.
