At the present stage, the development of a scientifically substantiated rehabilitation program for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) during the preoperative management stage remains an important task. The aim of the study was to improve the effectiveness of physical rehabilitation in patients with NSCLC by developing and substantiating a program of therapeutic exercises during the preoperative period. During 2023-2024, a total of 54 patients with NSCLC aged 49-74 years participated in the study. All patients underwent lobectomy of the affected lung. The preoperative period lasted 14 days, during which patients were offered a prehabilitation program that included aerobic, strength, and breathing exercises. Sixteen patients refused to perform the exercises and were therefore assigned to the control group (CG). Consequently, 38 patients who completed the proposed program con stituted the main group (MG). In patients of the MG, the length of hospital stay was shorter and averaged 7.8 (1.0) days compared with 9.1 (1.3) days in the CG (p=0.001). In the MG, the level of forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV₁) was already higher during the second visit. The implementation of prehabilitation measures had a positive effect on indicators of overall aerobic endurance. Thus, already during the second visit, a statistically significantly longer walking distance was recorded in the MG, which resulted in the preservation of this difference on the 7th postoperative day (p<0.05). At the same time, the decrease in endurance after surgery in the MG was 2.0 times lower than in the CG. These functional improvements formed the basis for patients’ ability to perform activities of daily living, which contributed to a better dynamic of quality-of-life indicators in patients of the MG (p<0.05). The proposed prehabilitation program is a simple, effective, accessible, and safe intervention for patients with NSCLC. Its implementation reduced disease manifestations and the duration of hospital stay, and improved aerobic endurance, pulmonary function, the ability to perform daily activities, and the overall quality of life of patients.
