The article discusses the prospects for using in intensive care in patients with severe traumatic brain injury (STBI) to improve the processes of neuronal mitochondrial respiration. The study included 40 patients with STBI. In 20 patients, intensive therapy has performed according to the recommendations of the Brain Trauma Foundation. Another 20 patients used drugs to activate mitochondrial respiration, including succinic acid and periods of moderate normobaric hyperoxia lasting 6 hours a day. Patients who had been stimulated with oxidative processes noted a faster recovery of consciousness function on the Glasgow coma scale, more effective recovery of cerebral blood flow against the background of regression of posttraumatic cerebral edema, and a significant advantage in the rate of normalization of body temperature.
