In modern sports, competitive activity is considered a key aspect of the study and implementation of functional reserves in sportsmen. Physiological load, psycho-emotional state and motivation determine adaptation processes and new opportunities in sports. The literature presents a variety of factors that structure the functional support of special performance in sportsmen, including qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the rapid kinetics of physiological processes, steady state and development of reactions. These components are based on highly specialised reactive properties of the organism that determine its ability to respond quickly, efficiently and entirely to physical activity. The article describes a study of the functional support of kayakers specialising in 200 and 1000 metres. This made it possible to identify differences in the functioning of the respiratory system and energy supply during the modulation of physical activity at the level of competition. The results of physiological testing revealed differences in the respiratory system and energy supply at the level of competitive activity. Rowers specialising in the distance of 200 m have expressed quantitative and qualitative characteristics that characterise the fast kinetics of physiological processes. At the same time, those who specialise in 1000 m demonstrate distinct quantitative and qualitative characteristics of stability and compensation of fatigue. The physiological load is assessed by the degree of increase in oxygen consumption, pulmonary ventilation and CO2 production. The glycolytic capacity of the "critical" power as an anaerobic reserve is investigated.
