Cadmium is a heavy metal that enters the body in various ways, is involved in metabolic processes, accumulates in various tissues and organs, and can cause pathological changes and diseases. For example, cadmium significantly impacts the liver and kidneys, nervous, cardiovascular and reproductive systems. Copper and zinc can compete with cadmium for certain receptors or metabolic pathways, which allows them to reduce their negative impact. It may open prospects for using copper and zinc as potential bioantagonists. This competitive process can lead to a reduction in the absorption of cadmium by cells, which in turn reduces its toxic effects. The interaction of cadmium with copper or zinc is a complex process, and the level of accumulation of these metals in female rat embryos and hearts, as well as heart mass index, may provide some insight into the toxicological and antagonistic nature of these interactions. Understanding these processes is important for developing strategies to protect against cadmium toxicity and further developing preventive measures to maintain heart health. The study was conducted on pregnant female Wistar rats throughout the entire gestation period, divided into four groups. Indicators of quantitative accumulation of cadmium, copper and zinc in embryos and hearts of females were analysed, and heart mass indexes of females in all four groups were calculated, which allowed us to identify certain patterns of effects and interactions of copper and zinc concerning cadmium.
