The introduction of laparoscopic access in colorectal surgery was a logical step driven by advances in technical capabilities. Laparoscopic mesocolectomy provides 20-40-fold optical magnification during the procedure, which enhances precision, ensures minimal invasiveness, and facilitates more thorough lymph node dissection. Particular attention should be given to elderly patients, as the chosen treatment strategy significantly influences the risk of anastomotic complications, the intensity of postoperative pain, the rate of postoperative mobilisation and rehabilitation, as well as overall survival outcomes. The aim of this study was to assess the advantages of laparo- scopic methods in the management of colorectal cancer in elderly and senile patients. The study included 32 patients with previously diagnosed and histologically confirmed large intestine cancer. All participants underwent standard preoperative evaluation encompassing a comprehensive set of laboratory and instrumental investigations. The findings indicate that the use of laparoscopic techniques in the treatment of colorectal cancer in older individuals is associated with reduced postoperative pain intensity and offers several economic benefits, owing to early patient mobilisation in line with Fast-Track surgery principles, decreased requirements for infusion therapy, antibacterial and symptomatic treatment, accelerated rehabilitation, and shorter hospital stays.
